Aditya-L1: India’s solar mission reaches sun’s orbit

India’s solar observation mission has entered the sun’s orbit after a four-month journey, the latest success for the space exploration ambitions of the world’s most populous country. The Aditya-L1 mission was launched in September and is carrying an array of instruments to measure and observe the sun’s outermost layers. India became the first Asian country to put a craft into orbit around Mars in 2014 and it is expected to launch a three-day crewed mission into Earth’s orbit later this year.

Nancy Mandhotra prevails in top Indian field to clinch 10m air rifle gold at Asian Olympic Shooting Qualifier

Teenager Nancy Mandhotra overcame stiff competition from compatriot Elavenil Valarivan to win the women’s 10m air rifle gold medal at the Asian Olympic Qualifier in Jakarta on Wednesday. Kurukshetra’s 19-year-old Mandhotra, who had won a bronze at the ISSF World Cup in Baku last year, began the final with four of her first five shots in excess of 10.5 and was placed second behind Valarivan after the first series.
