In the initiative, a total of one crore (10 million) households throughout India will be granted a monthly allocation of up to 300 units of complimentary electricity derived from solar power. This groundbreaking venture involves a dedicated investment surpassing Rs 75,000 crore. The Prime Minister shared on X:

 "To advance sustainable development and enhance people’s well-being, we are launching the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This initiative, backed by an investment exceeding Rs. 75,000 crores, aims to illuminate 1 crore households by providing up to 300 units of complimentary electricity each month."

 "Through significant subsidies directly deposited into individuals' bank accounts and highly concessional bank loans, the Central Government is committed to ensuring that there is no financial burden on the people. A National Online Portal will integrate all stakeholders, enhancing convenience." "To promote the scheme at the grassroots level, Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats will be incentivized to encourage rooftop solar systems in their respective areas.
