Renowned sprinter and current IOA (Indian Olympic Association) president, PT Usha, has been honored with the prestigious 'Lifetime Achievement' award by both the Sports Journalists Federation of India and the Delhi Sports Journalists Association.
This accolade marks her as the fifth recipient of the award, following in the footsteps of esteemed individuals such as Vijay Amritraj, Prakash Padukone, Sunil Gavaskar, and Milkha Singh. PT Usha, who secured 103 international medals for India, including an impressive collection of 4 gold and 7 silver medals at the Asian Games, has left an indelible mark on the world of athletics. Recognized as the "Queen of Indian track and field," PT Usha was honored with a medallion, a citation, and a memento, symbolizing the immense respect she has earned throughout her outstanding sporting career.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has named Mio Oka as the newly appointed Country Director for India. In her role, Oka will be responsible for supervising the execution of ADB's country partnership strategy for India, with a particular emphasis on promoting private sector-led growth, enhancing climate resilience, and fostering social inclusiveness. ADB, having been a consistent supporter of India's development objectives since initiating operations in 1986, continues its commitment to advancing the nation's developmental goals.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB), operational in India since 1986, has appointed Mio Oka, a Japanese national, as its new Country Director for India. She takes over from Takeo Konishi, who has been elevated to the position of ADB Director General for South Asia at the Manila headquarters.
Mio Oka, an alumna of the London School of Economics, brings nearly three decades of professional experience to her new role. Her career spans over 18 years with ADB, where she started as a project specialist in the Mekong Department in 2005. After serving as an advisor to the President for approximately six years, she assumed a managerial role as a director in the agriculture and natural resources sector. Oka later covered the South Asia region and led the Emerging Areas team for over seven years.

The Union Cabinet has recently approved several key economic decisions, including the extension of crucial schemes, such as the Subsidised Sugar Scheme. These measures are anticipated to have a significant impact on India's economy and provide assistance to the most vulnerable sections of society.
The Union Cabinet has extended the Subsidised Sugar Scheme until March 31, 2026. This initiative is aimed at providing sugar at subsidized rates to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families, contributing to the improvement of the health of the poorest citizens by supplementing their diet with sugar. Under this scheme, the Central Government offers a subsidy of Rs. 18.50 per kg per month of sugar to AAY families in participating States. The extension of this scheme is expected to provide benefits exceeding Rs. 1850 crore during the period of the 15th Finance Commission (2020-21 to 2025-26). Alongside this scheme, the Government of India also provides free ration under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) and sells essential food items like 'Bharat Atta,' 'Bharat Dal,' 'Bharat Rice,' tomatoes, and onions at affordable prices.
